New Mexico Oct 2007 (Day 4)

Day 4 - Monday (Oct 23th)

Another day of fewer pictures. First of all, I was having problems with my camera (it's going back to Canon for warranty repair). A few years ago, my camera died the 2nd day of a trip to Southern California. Well after that horrible experience I made sure to carry a spare this time.

I spent most of the day fossil hunting in the road cuts along US380. So I ended up paying more attention to the cuts, and where I could safely pull of the road to search them. Unfortunately, didn't find any. Also went searching for "Pecos Diamonds" (doubly-terminated quartz crystals) along the Pecos River west of Roswell. No real luck here. Found a few nice quartz specimens, but no "diamonds".

This was the best shot of the day

One thing I noticed about Roswell, they certainly promote the UFO/Alien genre

The two signs left of the "Weather Balloon Tracking Center" say:

"Do Not Attempt To Approach A Downed Balloon Yourself"

"Remember, Only You Can Prevent Mass Hysteria"

Even Walmart is in the act!

This was a difficult shot, and took a little processing to bring out the front of the building. The problem is that the sun is not far above the store. You can see the direction to the sun by following the lens flair circles. Or are those circles UFO's?

This is at the "intersection of Main & Main" in downtown Roswell. There are several shops done up like these in the area.
