Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is a beautiful area just 17mi west of the Las Vegas Strip. The park covers 197,000 acres and provides a host of recreational opportunities. I highly recommend the 13mi scenic drive. It would be especially nice in a convertible. Unfortunately, these pictures were taken fairly late in the day. Earlier in the afternoon would have been better, and the morning light is supposed to be spectacular here.

The multicolored sandstone formation is called Calico Rock. This picture was taken from a scenic overlook on NV159.

Another shot of Calico Rock, this time from the stop on the 13mi scenic loop.

Not sure what this feature is named. It is representative of the sandstone cliffs that run along the west side of the valley.
